The Cupcake War on The UES
Do you have a sweet tooth? I absolutely do! I feel fortunate that I work on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where there are plenty of great places for desserts & sweet stuff. I remember a few years ago, when people asked me where to get desserts by Bloomingdales, I would tell them to check out Serendipity 3 on 60th Street, a place where people have to wait in line to get in. I walked past this place everyday in the past years and the line and the wait were always insanely long.
However, last year Magnolia bakery expanded their territory to Bloomingdales 59th Street. Not that I’m complaining, I absolutely LOVE it! Not long after, Sprinkles, a famous cupcake place from DC, also settled on Lexington Ave, just a couple blocks away from Magnolia Bakery. A few weeks ago, I had just discovered that Baked By Melissa expanded their franchise to the UES as well, and only a block away from Sprinkles! Bravo to the boldness and braveness these companies have in them! It’s good for me as a consumer who has more to choose from!
In my humble opinion, I go to Magnolia bakery because it’s closer to work, and they have a lot of sweet stuff that I love; their cupcakes, banana pudding that comes in all sizes, chocolate flour-less cake, cakes, cheesecakes and more!
The yummiest banana pudding I’ve ever tasted
I have tried half of these things and my mouth is watery thinking about them.
I love that Magnolia’s always keeps up with the current events. They always have their theme cupcakes! I’m a huge fan of Dexter, and I couldn’t help myself because they look awesome and also tasty!
Now, lets talk a little more about Sprinkles Cupcakes. Cupcakes are their thing! I remember seeing their DC branch a few months ago, there was a long line that wrapped around the block! I’m glad that they have a branch on the UES. I go there regularly, but not as often as Magnolia’s. To those that are vegan, you can try their signature vegan gluten free red velvet cupcakes. They taste great, but my favorite is the dark chocolate cupcake because it has an amazingly soft texture and the amount of dark chocolate is just perfectly right!
I would like to talk a little bit about Baked by Melissa. I think that they try to market on consumers who want to eat small cupcakes. I think mini cupcakes by Baked By Melissa are cute. I tried them a couple of times. I think they taste great, but I don’t feel satisfied, because I have to eat a couple of them instead of having just one. But, that’s just my opinion.
If I had to choose the winner, I would have to go with Magnolia Bakery because it’s closer, and offers more selections of desserts. However, I’m very torn because Sprinkles is a great place for cupcakes as well. Now let me know who would YOU pick?
